Mr William Corbally (4), a minor figure in the criminal underworld, was reported missing in March. He is believed to have been killed by a gang which included P.J. Judge, the drug dealer shot dead in Finglas earlier this month. Mr Corbally's body has never been recovered, and gardai believe it was buried in a field in Co Kildare.

The eight people - including four women - were arrested in connection with the disappearance in a series of Garda raids throughout Dublin which began early on Wednesday morning.

They were detained at five stations under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act which allows detention without charge for 48 hours. One woman was released last evening.
