Comedian Hal Roach and his daughter yesterday settled a breach of contract case which involved building work at the daughter's home.

Ms Sandra Carroll, of Glenbourne View, Leopardstown Valley, Dublin, and her father, Mr Hal Roach, of Garrivhan, Burrow Road, Stepaside, Co Dublin, had been sued by builders R and K Duffy Ltd, Balally Park, Dundrum, Dublin. The proceedings before Judge Joseph Matthews in the Circuit Civil Court, related to an alleged breach of a £17,000 contract for building work at the Leopardstown Valley property.

Allowing for a part-payment of £7,000, Mr Ronan Duffy, of R & K Duffy, had sued for a balance of £10,000. Following several hours of negotiations, Mr Pat Purcell, counsel for the builder, told Judge Matthews the case had been settled. Mr Purcell said it had been agreed that £6,000 would be paid to Mr Duffy's solicitor within six weeks from yesterday. This was to be followed by the payment of a further £6,000 12 weeks from yesterday's date.
