Two of senior gardaí criticised in last week's second report from the Morris tribunal investigating Garda corruption in Donegal will retire at the end of next month.

A statement late last night from the Garda Press office said the Garda Commissioner Noel Conroy met with Supt Joseph Shelley and Det Supt John McGinley who gave notice of their retirement on July 31 st.

Mr Justice Frederick Morris found the Garda investigation into the death of Donegal man Richie Barron was "prejudiced, tendentious and utterly negligent in the highest degree".

The report said Det Supt Shelley and Det Supt McGinley "share in various degrees the burden or fault for this matter" along with other senior garda.
