Marine tourism could generate £700 million and create 9,000 new jobs in regions where alternative options are limited, the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources has said.
"We are only scratching at the surface," Mr Fahey said yesterday when he announced a seminar for policy-makers on the issue on September 18th.
The seminar on Inchydoney Island, Co Cork, will be jointly hosted by the Marine Institute and the Department and will be attended by county and city managers, regional and national tourism managers, officials in relevant Government departments and agencies, and marine and tourism interests.
