Security cameras have been installed in one of Limerick's largest housing estates in an effort to combat crime.

Limerick Corporation has spent almost £40,000 on cameras in Moyross to try to reduce the level of crime and drugs in the area. This local authority housing estate has a population of over 5,000 people. According to corporation housing officer, Ms Mary Ryan, the cameras are to monitor unlawful activities on the streets and not the personal lives of residents.

The corporation has spent £1.5 million on refurbishing vandalised houses in one section of the estate.
