Copenhagen - Danish unions and employers began secret talks yesterday to thrash out an agreement to end a crippling private sector strike before the government decides to intervene.

As transport, factories and hospital services in the country ground to a halt in the fourth day of strikes, the labour confederation LO and representatives of the employers federation DA began talks which could come to a head by Sunday, said sources close to the discussions.
