A 41-year-old man was shot in the leg this afternoon, in the second paramilitary-style attack in the North in less than 24 hours.

The man was wounded in his left leg in the shooting in Carrickfergus, Co Antrim, in the town's Glenfield estate, shortly before two o'clock.

It followed a similar shooting late last night when a 32-year-old man was shot in his right leg in the loyalist Rathcoole estate on the northern outskirts of Belfast.
