Gardaí have released a second man without charge in connection with the murder of a man (26) in Clondalkin last Friday.
John Cunningham from Kiltilawn, Tallaght, was attacked on Friday evening at the junction of New Nangor Road and Fonthill Road shortly after 8 pm.
He was beaten with a pool cue and stabbed repeatedly with a long-bladed knife.
Gardaí have since recovered both weapons. It is understood the gang attacked him believing he was a burglar.
A murder investigation was opened by detectives when Mr Cunningham died of his injuries in Tallaght hospital yesterday evening.
Mr Cunningham was part of a large Traveller family and had seven sisters and three brothers. He was married for five years, with two sons aged two and four, while his 25-year-old wife is pregnant with a third child.
Gardai arrested a 19-year-old and a 22-year-old from Clondalkin following the attack. Both have since been released and a file is to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Minister for Justice Michael McDowell warned today that vigilante attacks would not be tolerated. "There is only one system of the rule of law and that's An Garda Siochana. When I say that on a political level to the Provisional movement, I say it to everyone in Irish society - there is only one system of law in this country and it's the one that's established in our constitution."
Gardai have appealed to anyone who witnessed the attack, or may have information, to contact them in Clondalkin Garda Station at 01-6667600
