THE NEW dig to find the remains of Mary Boyle, who disappeared in mysterious circumstances at the age of six almost 34 years ago in Co Donegal, is not expected to resume after nothing was found during the second day’s search.

The search was prompted by guidance from a Dutch psychic and involved the removal of tonnes of bog land in the dig at Cashelard, 5km from Ballyshannon.

Mary’s uncle, Gerry Gallagher, the last person to see her before she disappeared, was with workers during the new search and a garda monitored the dig.

Workmen who dug a first hole 2½ metres deep on Sunday were excavating a second one yesterday nearby.

Mary, who lived in Kincasslagh, was visiting her grandparents when she went missing on March 18th, 1977, while she was following her uncle across fields to a neighbour’s house.

The new dig is between 250m and 300m from her grandparents’ home, which is now a disused building.
