The Government should reconsider the scrappage scheme for older cars because it has resulted in "stoking" demand for new vehicles, causing increased traffic congestion in Dublin, according to a senior transport executive.

Mr Derry O'Leary, development manager of Dublin Bus, said there was no "airtight" guarantee that the older cars being traded in under the scheme were actually being scrapped.
