LAS VEGAS - A retired electrical engineer from Scotland was stabbed to death by a vagrant while on holiday in the gambling capital of the US.

Mr James Smith, a widower from Marchfield Road, Ayr, was stabbed a number of times outside the Desert Inn on Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. by a 40 year old vagrant, who had been begging on the street.
