The Nice Treaty and Ireland's future in Europe will be the main issues for discussion at this year's MacGill Summer School in Glenties, Co Donegal, writes Deaglán de Bréadún.
The President of the European Parliament, Mr Pat Cox, will deliver the second annual John Hume lecture on Sunday at the opening of the school, named after writer Patrick MacGill. Forty-three speakers will address the school, which runs from July 28th to August 2nd. This year's theme is "Ireland and Europe 1972-2002: where do we go from here?"
The Minister of State for European Affairs, Mr Dick Roche, will open the festival. Speakers will include the chairman of the Czech parliament's foreign affairs committee, Dr Michael Zantovsky; Ireland's European Commissioner, Mr David Byrne; and Secretary-General of the European Commission, Mr David O'Sullivan.
