Use your electrical appliances energy efficiently. With kettles, the upright jug versions are the most energy efficient. If you live in a hard water area, de-scale your kettle regularly as the build-up of scale means longer boiling times.

Fridge-freezers use less energy than separate fridge and freezer appliances. Set your fridge temperature to its most economical setting three-quarters degrees for the fresh-food compartment and minus 15/18 degrees for the freezer section.

Allow hot food to cool before putting it in the freezer. Cover liquids and wrap foods stored in the fridge. Always load your washing machine and dishwasher fully and run at the lowest temperature possible.
