RECYCLING: At least half of all domestic waste is recyclable although less than 10 per cent is actually recycled in this country. You can improve things yourself by keeping separate recycling bins in the kitchen for glass and cans. Paper and cardboard may be composted or recycled if there are facilities in your area. Build a compost pile in your back garden. For the best results, a two-to-one balance of carbon/browns (balled newspapers, cardboard, dry leaves, dried brown grass, dryer/vacuum lint, etc) and nitrogen/greens (moist green leaves, weeds, vegetable/fruit peels, tea bags, ground coffee, egg shells and flowers) is required.
