Bogota - The outgoing Colombian President, Mr Ernesto Samper, has publicly admitted that government agents were responsible for massacres and selective assassinations of a total of 49 people between 1991 and 1993.
In what he called a public apology to the families of the victims, Mr Samper said his government "accepts the state's responsibility" for the dire actions that killed 49 Colombian men and women."
Mr Samper steps down as president on August 7th following elections on June 21st won by Mr Andres Pastrana.
