The Hague - The Netherlands yesterday gave final approval to laws allowing same-sex couples to marry and adopt children. Activists were jubilant at the legislation, to take effect next April, saying it was a world first.
The upper house of parliament passed the two bills - strongly opposed by Christian parties - after approval by the lower house in September.
