Murmansk - The wreck of Russia's Kursk nuclear submarine headed to port Monday after a marathon salvage operation raised it from the Arctic seabed, more than a year after it sank with the loss of all 118 crew.

Ms Larissa van Seumeren, a spokeswoman for the Dutch salvage contractors Mammoet, said the operation to raise the 18,000-tonne Kursk took a little over 15 hours. The voyage to Roslyakovo, outside Murmansk is expected to take about two days.
