London - An Anglican vicar sacked for having an affair with a parishioner has started a High Court attempt to overturn his conviction.

In a case which could have ramifications throughout the church, the Rev Clifford Williams (50) is challenging both the verdict of the ecclesiastical court which convicted him and the procedures under which it heard evidence.
