A contender for the IFA presidency, Mr Michael Slattery, has called on the Government to bring investment policies for rural Ireland back to the top of the agenda.

Mr Slattery said economic growth in recent years had been impressive. "However, the benefits have not spread to the rural areas."

Surely Government policies should focus on retaining people in such areas, he said.
