An investigation is continuing in Northern Ireland into the death of an adopted baby whose body had to be exhumed after burial.

The one-year-old was brought with his twin brother from an unnamed eastern European country by his new parents to live in Portadown, Co Armagh.

A man who was arrested and questioned in connection with the toddler's death has been released on bail.

The child died last October, but it was not until several weeks later that detectives began making inquiries when the dead baby's brother was admitted to hospital for treatment to injuries.

The infant's body was then exhumed on the instructions of the coroner at the end of November and reburied the same day.

An RUC spokesman tonight confirmed that a man had been questioned in connection with the death.

Northern Ireland Health Minister Bairbre de Brun has been briefed on the circumstances surrounding the case.

"A case management review is under way and it will thoroughly examine all the circumstances and make recommendations," she said.

"My department will consider what further action might be needed in light of the report of the case management review."
