The Police Federation has described as "outrageous and inflammatory" comments made about the RUC's conduct during the events surrounding Drumcree.
Remarks that the force was sectarian and should be disbanded were particularly insulting, the organisation said in its monthly magazine, Police Beat.
"People who should know better, and regrettably this would appear to include certain members of the Police Authority, should understand that the police did a very difficult job professionally, without partiality and at personal risk to themselves and their families," it stated.
