The head of the RUC Special Branch has won libel damages of £30,000 arising from a pamphlet about his role in the 1995 Drumcree stand-off. However, Mr Freddie Hall has so far not received a penny or an agreed apology, the High Court in Belfast heard yesterday.
Mr Hall's action was settled out of court last month. He had sued the author of the pamphlet, unionist historian Dr Gordon Lucy, the publishers, Ulster Society (Publications) Ltd, and the printers, Northern Whig Ltd.
Mr Hall's barrister, Mr David Ringland, said in court yesterday that the terms of the settlement had not been fulfilled by the defendants. A signed apology was still outstanding, and in those circumstances he was asking for an adjournment.
Lord Justice Campbell adjourned the hearing until December 7th, but said that if matters came to a conclusion before then there could be an earlier listing.
