Former Manchester City boss Joe Royle has been approached about taking over as manager of first division club Ipswich, he confirmed today.
Royle told the Manchester Evening Newshe had held preliminary talks with the Suffolk club's chairman David Sheepshanks and will resume them after the weekend.
The 52-year-old was sacked as City boss in May 2001 and is still involved in a legal wrangle over his pay-off.
"I have spoken with the Ipswich chairman and hope to speak to him again soon," Royle said.
"Ipswich are a well run club and of course I would be interested in managing them. But nothing has been signed or sealed yet."
Royle took City from the second division to the Premiership in consecutive seasons before being axed after the Blues were relegated from the top flight.
Ipswich have been without a manager since sacking George Burley on October 11th.
Burley paid the price for the club's disastrous start to their first division campaign after being relegated from the Premiership.
