Blackburn are hoping to sign Turkey's World Cup captain Hakan Sukur as a stop-gap answer to their current problems in finding the back of the net.
Sukur, who is a free agent after being released by Parma in the summer, is due in Blackburn this weekend for talks with Rovers boss Graeme Souness.
"We will be talking about the possibility of a contract until the end of the season," Souness revealed. "If he likes us and we like him after that we will talk about something for the following season."
Blackburn have struggled to hit the target in recent weeks. Former Manchester United pair Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke have scored only five goals this season and Corrado Grabbi has not managed to put them under any serious pressure.
Grabbi spent most of last season on loan to Messina and is expected to return to Italy shortly on another loan deal, this time with Reggina.
Sukur captained Turkey to third place in the World Cup this summer but he had a poor tournament by his own standards, managing only one goal and missing a string of chances.
He has since fallen out with the national coach Senol Gunes and, at 31, is seen by many as a spent force.
He does however have a pedigree as a proven goalscorer and attracted interest from West Ham, Sunderland and Tottenham after the World Cup. His wage demands reportedly killed off any deal but after also failing to agree terms with Rangers, he may now be more realistic about his earning potential.
