Bucharest - Romania's incoming left-wing government said yesterday it intended to fight poverty and corruption while keeping a tight enough grip on spending to win new loans from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Mr Adrian Nastase, who will take over as prime minister on December 29th, said the government would also push for privatisation and economic reform.
