A COLLECTION of memorabilia from many of music's most famous names is on display in Co Kildare this week, ahead of being auctioned for charity in New York later this month.
Bob Dylan's set list, Johnny Cash's guitar, a Miles Davis trumpet and Kurt Cobain's old bass guitar are among the items which will be auctioned off by U2 guitarist The Edge at the Icons of Music sale in the Times Square Hard Rock Cafe on May 31st.
The proceeds of the sale will be donated to Music Rising, a charity partly established by The Edge, aka David Evans, to aid musicians from the gulf coast region of the US who were affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Two Gibson guitars used by The Edge in studio and stage performances are expected to make more than $40,000 (€29,950) and $80,000 (€59,900) respectively.
A set of suits worn by the Beatles are expected to generate more than $60,000 (€38,950) for the charity.
A guitar donated by Bono is expected to make more than $80,000 (€59,000) at the auction, while a Gibson Les Paul played by former Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash, valued at $30,000 (€19,500) will also be on sale.
Four-time Grammy Award winning artist Aaron Neville will perform at the event.
He and his family had their home destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.
The collectables are on display at the Newbridge Silverware Museum in Newbridge, Co Kildare, until May 14th.
