Seven people have lost their lives in less than thirty-six hours on Irish roads, it emerged today.
A woman in her twenties was killed when the car in which she was a passenger in a car crashed into a field in Newry, Co Down.
The incident occurred at around 1 a.m. on the Benagh road in the Derrylackagh area of the town.
The PSNI are appealing for anyone who may have seen the blue Renault 19 car on the Hilltown Road or the Benagh Road before the accident happened.
Meanwhile, a man was killed when his car crashed on the Steeple Road in Antrim around 3.30 a.m.
In another incident, a man was killed when the jeep he was driving crashed into a tree near Macroom, Co Cork. The accident occurred shortly after 4 a.m. at Caherbirrane.
The victim, who is understood to be in his late thirties, was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
Gardaí in Donegal said today they were investigating a fatal accident in Lifford which happened earlier this morning. The male driver of a car was fatally injured as a result of a single vehicle accident.
Earlier this morning Gardaí named three people killed in separate road accidents yesterday.
Gardaí in Wicklow named the victim of the fatal accident on the N11 as Mr Gerry McCabe of Redcross, Co Wicklow. He was 48 years old.
Gardaí in Ennis named the woman killed in the fatal accident on the Mill Road as 86-year-old Ms Ellen Murphy of Clarecastle , Co Clare.
Gardaí in Macroom in Cork named the motorcyclist killed in a fatal accident on as 29-year-old Ms Nuala Dennehy, from Middleton, Cork.
