The Revenue Commissioners today warned the public that scammers have been circulating a fraudulent email seeking personal information from taxpayers in connection with a tax refund.
The email asks the recipient to submit personal details including date of birth and debit/credit card
details.
"This email did not issue from Revenue," it said in a statement. "The Revenue Commissioners never send emails which require customers to send personal information via email or pop-up windows."
Anyone who receives an email purporting to be from Revenue and suspects it to be fraudulent or a scam is asked to forward it to
webmaster@revenue.ieor can contact their tax district to check the status of any
refund that may be due.
Revenue also warned anyone who has provided bank information in response to these emails to contact their bank or credit card company immediately.
