A strike by English footballers could move a step closer tomorrow when the PFA announces the result of its ballot in the ongoing row over television money.

The footballers' union has called a news conference in Manchester at 2 p.m. tomorrow afternoon when chief executive Gordon Taylor will announce the result of the ballot of its 4,000 members.

If, as expected, most favour industrial action, a strike involving all games covered by television in December is a possibility.

The PFA wants 5 per cent of television money from the Premier League, amounting to around £25 million sterling.

The Premier League, which is offering about £10 million, could seek a court injunction to prevent any strike going ahead.
