Marine rescue services were called out last night to airlift a man who fell off a cliff on the Great Saltee Island in Co Wexford.

The man, who was walking on his own along a cliff top late last night, fell 70 feet to a ledge. The ledge was 30 feet from the sea.

The man, who is in his sixties, sustained head injuries.

Rescue services were told of the incident at 10.47 p.m. last night. A rescue helicopter was sent from Waterford, while Waterford Coast Guard from Tramore sent a boat that lit the scene for the helicopter.

The man was airlifted shortly before 1 a.m. this morning and was taken to Ardkeen hospital in Waterford where his condition is stable.
