Ankara - Torture is widespread in Turkish police stations, where sanitation and treatment fall far below international standards, according to a Human Rights Commission report.

While the report shows that Turkey is still far from meeting the human rights standards for EU membership, some will see the fact that it was conducted at all as a sign of a growing will for reform.
