Racing:The Red Mills Chase will now be run at Navan on Sunday after Gowran Park was forced to abandon its races over fences on Saturday. With the chase track at Gowran waterlogged, the three races scheduled to be run over larger obstacles have been called off.

Officials have moved quickly to safeguard the fixture by dividing one of the hurdle races and a bumper. Irish Turf Club press officer, Cliff Noone, said: “The chase track is waterlogged and unfit for racing so, unfortunately, all the races over fences have been abandoned.

“They have decided to divide the handicap hurdle and the bumper to form a six-race card.”

Robbie Hennessy’s Rubi Light has won the Red Mills Chase for the last two years and will still bid for the hat-trick, despite the switch of venue. Hennessy said: “He’ll definitely still run, without a doubt.

“Navan is only about 20 minutes away from us and I’m just delighted they’ve rescheduled it. The race fits in perfectly timing-wise — if they’d rescheduled it for later we probably wouldn’t have run.

“Hopefully Navan will be all right. The sun is shining here now and it’s a drying day. The horse is in great form and we look forward to Sunday now.”
