Gunmen of Uganda's Lords Resistance Army (LRA) rebel group killed scores of civilians in attacks on northern villages late on Thursday and early yesterday, an army spokesman said today.

"Scores of civilians were killed at around midnight on November 6th in Alanyi and Awayopiny villages in Lira district," Lieutenant Chris Magezi, a spokesman for the army's Third Division, said.
