Blackburn's money men have pulled the plug on Graeme Souness' attempt to sign Barry Ferguson.

Blackburn's money men have pulled the plug on Graeme Souness' attempt to sign Barry Ferguson.

The Ewood Park side have had a second offer for the Rangers captain rejected and are unlikely to increase their bid.

Souness is still keen to sign the highly-rated midfielder but will not be given the cash needed to meet Rangers' demands, possibly opening the door to a move from Everton who are also interested in the Scotland midfielder.

Souness told the Daily Record: "We made a second offer and we've had it rejected so I think that is us out of it now.

"I don't want to talk about the numbers that were discussed but I am not expecting to make a third offer.

"It's disappointing for me because I wanted him here but my directors say they can't go any further so that's the end of it."
