The PSNI have issued a fresh appeal for information about the sectarian murder of Catholic teenager Gerard Lawlor a year ago.

Mr Lawlor (19) was shot dead as he made his way home in the Whitewell area of north Belfast on July 22nd, 2002.

The loyalist Ulster Freedom Fighters admitted responsibility for the murder. But the smaller Loyalist Volunteer Force was believed to have carried out thekilling at the behest of the Shankill-based UFF "C" Company.

Detectives investigating the killing say they know those responsible but they need the evidence to convict them.

The officer leading the investigation appealed to the public to help find a motorcycle, which was seen in the area at the time of the murder.

"That motorcycle left the scene that night and probably went back to an estate in north or west Belfast," Det Supt Roy Suitters said.
