A police officer in Derry was tonight treated for injuries after coming under attack from petrol bombers.

A police officer in Derry was tonight treated for injuries after coming under attack from petrol bombers.

The officer sustained minor injuries during the incident at Faughan Street in the city. Police had been responding to a bomb alert in the area which turned out to be a hoax.

As they attended the scene, a dozen petrol bombs were thrown at them. A crowd of up to 100 people confronted the officers during the incident.
