Profiits at Spanish airline Iberia jump by 171%

Spanish airline Iberia said today its nine-month net profit jumped 171 per cent to €402 million.

Spanish airline Iberia said today its nine-month net profit jumped 171 per cent to €402 million.

Chairman Fernando Conte told an analyst presentation that Iberia would achieve all of the 2005 objectives in its strategic plan.

Iberia said it sees cost savings of €600 million in the 2006 to 2008 period and expects staff numbers to fall 9 per cent between 2005 and 2008.

The company said operating costs in the first nine months of 2005 rose 3.5 per cent. It said it will provision €280 million this year to fund staff cuts.
