Waterford defender Declan Prendergast will not contest his eight-week ban proposed by the Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) last night.

Prendergast was sent off after striking Kilkenny’s Eddie Brennan in the head with his hurl during the division one meeting between the two sides on Sunday.

The news was widely expected because the offence carries a minimum ban of eight weeks.

Prendergast will now miss the remainder of the league season.

Brennan was also dismissed but has requested a personal hearing with the Central Hearings Committee (CHC) after the CCCC recommended a four-week ban.

His case will be heard tomorrow night.
