MICHAEL DWYER, film correspondent of The Irish Timesuntil his death last year, is to be honoured at an awards ceremony celebrating UK and Irish cinema next month.

Dwyer died last January at the age of 58 following an illness. His contribution to film in Ireland will be recognised at the RAAM Awards in London on February 9th.

The citation for Dwyer's award pays tribute to his life's work: "The award is presented in recognition of his commitment to film in Ireland, as the founder of the Dublin Film Festival, as an advocate of nationwide access to world cinema and for his long-time support and recognition of Irish cinema exhibition and distribution through his work as film critic for the Irish Times."

The award will be accepted by Brian Jennings, Dwyer’s partner of over 20 years.

Dwyer wrote for The Irish Timesfor more than 20 years. He was also film critic for the Sunday Tribune, the Sunday Pressand In Dublinmagazine.

Filmmaker David Puttnam will also receive an award for his contribution to British film.
