Preliminary results are expected today, following post mortems on the bodies of an elderly couple found dead at their remote farmhouse in Co Kilkenny on Tuesday afternoon.

State pathologist Dr Marie Cassidy performed the autopsies last night at Waterford Regional Hospital, starting after 5 p.m.

A Garda forensic examination was also carried out yesterday at the house in Kilmacar, near Ballyragget, about 12 miles north of Kilkenny city.

Evidence at the scene strongly suggests that Bridget and John McGrath were victims of gas or carbon monoxide poisoning. Their pet dog was also found dead in the house.
