The Minister for Health has restated the Government's belief that the  constitutional position of the morning-after pill is "not open to doubt" as the abortion referendum campaign enters its final seven days.

Mr Martin said yesterday that both the Government and the Irish Medicines Board had obtained legal advice to this effect.

Labour's spokeswoman on equality and law reform, Ms Jan O'Sullivan, yesterday called on the four Independent TDs who support the Government to state their position on "whether they are happy with the haphazard way in which the Government they support is tampering with the Constitution".

Meanwhile, the Fine Gael leader, Mr Michael Noonan, will speak tonight at the first of three public meetings called by the party to advocate a No vote. Tonight's meeting is in Dublin, tomorrow's is in Portlaoise and Friday's is in Castlebar.
