VATICAN - The Vatican yesterday denied an Italian news agency report that Pope John Paul may be suffering from a new tumour. The Pope (76), who goes to hospital on Sunday to have his appendix removed, had a colon tumour removed in 1992.

Despite earlier reports to the contrary, the Vatican spokesman, Monsignor Joaquin Navarro Valls, said tests had shown that there had been no recurrence of the 1992 tumour.
