The Pope was "deeply saddened" by the deaths of three young brothers in a firebomb attack in Northern Ireland and is worried about the consequences for the peace process, his spokesman said yesterday.
Mr Joaquin Navarro-Valls said Pope John Paul watched the funeral on television in the Italian Alpine town of Lorenzago, where he is on holiday. He expressed "his sadness over the tragic deaths of the youngsters and his (concern) for the possible repercussions on the peace process," Mr Navarro-Valls said.
