VATICAN CITY - Pope John Paul hailed a "new spirit of friendship" between Jews and Catholics yesterday at a meeting to mark the 10th anniversary of his historic visit to a synagogue. The Pope made his remarks to Rome's chief rabbi, Elio Toaff, and other members of the city's Jewish community during an audience at the Vatican.
