VATICAN CITY - Pope John Paul II, gradually resuming his duties after surgery last month, delivered a weekly address yesterday to 40,000 people in St Peter's Square.

Many pilgrims had come for celebrations marking the 76 year old Pope's 50 years as a priest. The Pope, who had his appendix removed on October 8th, appeared in good form as he read the Angelus from a window of his apartments.
