A majority of voters are set to oppose the European Union's constitution in France's referendum on the charter on Sunday, a new opinion poll showed today.

The survey by polling group Ifop put opposition to the charter at 56 per cent of voters who had decided how to vote.

The poll, which was conducted yesterday and today, showed a rise in opposition to the treaty from 54 per cent in its previous survey, conducted last weekend.
