Candidate will run alongside Richard Bruton in next election

Senator Catherine Noone has been added to the Fine Gael ticket as a candidate for the Dublin Bay North constituency in the next general election.

She will run alongside sitting TD and Minister for Education Richard Bruton, who was selected as a candidate last week.

Ms Noone, who is a solicitor, chaired the Oireachtas Committee on the Eighth Amendment, which published its recommendations last December ahead of the constitutional amendment in May. She is deputy leader of the Seanad.

“I’m looking forward to working hard for the area and campaigning in advance of the election, whenever that may be,” Ms Noone said following her selection.

“Dublin Bay North is a large and increasingly diverse constituency affected by a wide range of issues.

“Certain areas have a growing population of young families - whilst others are have an increasing aging population, providing a variety of issues which I intend to tackle head on. These include matters concerning new schools, transport issues and planning strategy.”

Ms Noone said planning issues were always of keen interest in urban constituencies.

“A strategy needs to be examined to produce the optimum balance for locals - especially in light of the imminent court decision on the the proposed development in St Anne’s Park,” she said.
