Gambling laws and work from home among bills to be brought to Cabinet

The Government intends to publish a total of 44 bills this spring including one to update the antiquated gambling laws and legislation that will ensure there will be statutory protections to allow people work from home and enjoy a proportionate work-life balance.

The Government Chief Whip has brought the proposals to the Cabinet meeting ahead of the Dáil resuming after its winter recess.

If approved by the Government, the programme will also include legislation to give effect to the €100 rebate to homeowners to compensate for higher energy prices, as well as a statutory plan for the remediation scheme for families whose homes have been affected by mica.

A bill on statutory sick leave is also included in the programme as well as a bill that could see the long-awaited establishment of an electoral commission.

The programme is more ambitious than the similar programme in January last year which contained 32 bills. However, the autumn programme contained 46 bills including the Climate Action Bill and the bill that allows adopted children to trace information about their birth details.

As it happens that legislation, the Birth Information and Tracing Bill 2022, will be at its second stage in the Dáil today.
