Fine Gael poll rating falls but it remains most popular party

Fine Gael’s popularity has declined by three points in a new opinion poll but it remains the most popular political party in the State.

As the Oireachtas breaks for its summer recess, the Red C/Sunday Business Post poll shows Independents/Others have the highest level of support, following a four point spike taking them to 31 per cent.

Support for Fine Gael is at 25 per cent (down three), Sinn Féin is unchanged at 18 per cent while Fianna Fáil has lost two points and is at 18 per cent.

The Labour Party saw its support rise one point to 8 per cent. The coalition parties have the backing of one in three voters, according to the poll.

A poll published in The Sunday Times suggests the number of people in favour of allowing abortions in cases of fatal foetal abnormalities is declining.

The Behaviour & Attitudes poll found 70 per cent of voters supported such a measure, down from 76 per cent in the previous poll.
