A man has been jailed for six years for attempting to smuggle cocaine worth an estimated €1.4 million into Ireland.

A man has been jailed for six years for attempting to smuggle cocaine worth an estimated €1.4 million into Ireland.

Marius Baran (37) a labourer with an address at Michalowskiego, Pila in Poland was arrested in Cork in May 2005.

Together with his wife and 12-year-old son, Baran drove for four days from Poland with 20 kilogrammes of cocaine hidden in secret panels in his Peugeot car.

He was arrested in Cork city centre after a tip-off to the Garda National Drugs Unit.

Baran was bringing the drugs into Ireland on behalf of a Limerick gang.

Judge Patrick Moran jailed Baran for six years at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.
